The team at SOENECS have over 20 years' experience in the industry and are able to bring a wealth of experience at local, regional, and national government level. We select projects to work on that are delivering environmental, economic and social change, and have a brilliant network of associates that we bring in to work alongside us on certain projects.
DR DAVID GREENFIELD

David founded SOENECS after 15 years of leadership roles in local and regional government. His background includes bespoke research projects, data modelling, SME mentoring, chairing and membership of non-executive boards. David is an influential Chartered Waste Manager and Chartered Environmentalist, now with over 20 years of leadership experience in public sector roles focused on planning and delivering efficiencies in the environmental space. He has a strong track record in transformation, facilitated by expertise in circular economy, built environment, environmental and waste management, partnership working, procurement and strategic policy interventions.

Jodi HArford

Jodi is a Programme Manager at SOENECS, where she has overseen projects and initiatives such as the Keep Britain Tidy Chewing Gum Task Force. With a keen focus on tender and bid writing, Jodi has played a pivotal role in securing project funding and forging strategic partnerships for SOENECS. Her wide-ranging expertise is presently channeled into social value research.

Amelia Burrell

Amelia is a University of Brighton BSc Environmental Science graduate and holds an MSc in Climate Change from the University of East Anglia. Since joining SOENECS in 2021, she has played a pivotal role as a Circular Economy Researcher, contributing to various projects including innovative plastic solutions for the Southend Plasticity project and the Brighton & Hove Circular Economy Routemap. Amelia’s expertise extends to social value research, where she supports efforts to assess the economic, environmental, and social impacts of community repair initiatives, highlighting the significant carbon savings from circular practices.

OUR ASSOCIATES
Dr Ryan Woodard
Ryan is a waste management and circular economy expert with nearly 25 years of experience. At the University of Brighton, they led research and training projects, focusing on improving recycling, commercial waste management, and compliance with regulations. An accomplished author with over 100 publications, Ryan has also worked internationally in countries like South Africa and China. Currently, he is a freelance researcher collaborating on circular economy initiatives and global waste management projects.
Steve Creed
Steve is a seasoned director with extensive experience in management consulting, specialising in sustainable development, waste management, environmental awareness, and climate change. He is currently a director, supporting organisations and individuals in addressing sustainability challenges through coaching, mentoring, and consultancy. As co-founder of Circular Brighton and Hove, he promotes circular economy practices. Previously, he served as Director of Business Resource Efficiency at WRAP for over 16 years.
John Downer
John is an accomplished business leader with a strong focus on climate change, sustainability, and environmental leadership. He serves as Director of the High Speed Rail Group, and is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management and the Chartered Management Institute. With extensive experience in strategic leadership, business growth and scaling net-zero and decarbonisation initiatives, through a 20 year career at Jacobs, he has been instrumental in securing over £2.4 billion in global contracts.
Natalie Ibbott
Natalie has beeen a waste, recycling, reuse and circular economy professional for 18 years. Specialising in project management, project support, qualitative and quantitative research, data collection and analysis, strategy implementation, relationship and partnership building, she has led and delivered numerous projects for SOENECS. Natalie is also a qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner.
