TRANSFORM-CE is a €6.93million Interreg Northwest Europe-funded project focusing on transforming single use plastic waste into value-added products and using two innovative technologies; additive manufacturing (AM), and intrusion-extrusion moulding (IEM). 
By adopting a circular economy approach, TRANSFORM-CE aims to capture and return single use plastic to the system before it becomes waste or pollution. Manchester Metropolitan University is the lead organisation, bringing together researchers from the faculty of Science and Engineering, and Business and Law. They are joined by partners from across the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. SOENECS worked on creating an overview of the UK waste management system for collection and disposal and are pursuing ongoing research into collection mechanisms and their effectiveness of plastic waste capture across Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom in order to provide comparative analysis exploring the different plastic collection systems implemented.

Research outputs of the project to date include the diversion of 308.2 tonnes of plastic waste from landfill and incineration, the establishment of a Research and Development Centre in the UK (AM), a Prototyping Unit in Belgium (AM), and a pilot plant, the ‘Green Plastic Factory’, in the Netherlands (IEM).
